Between The Sea and Sky

Between Sea and Sky . . . Katie’s eyes.

When Katie married on a friend’s lawn overlooking Narragansett Beach, June, 14, 2009 we were there to capture her day.  It had rained like crazy all night long the night before she was to marry, but she willed that rain to stop. She was not going to have it any other way.  She got her wish; the rain never stood a chance against her determination.

Here we are a year and three months later to shoot her Dress on Scarborough Beach, a few minutes drive from her darling home.

She traverses these rocks every day with her Golden Retriever, Riley. Today he stayed home with Tim!

Still she managed to find a little friend in this crystal clear pool between the rocks.

The new friends napped on the rock warmed by the sun.

She belongs here among the Starfish and the Sea

She fits this place so blue and light

She knows all it’s secrets

She needs no keys to unlock the doors

She needs no ladder to reach its windows

The Sea is her playground

Like a Siren it calls to her on the wind

It tickles her skin

And makes her smile that smile

Weightless, she is carried on the waves

To the sandy shore

Where her happiness is reflected all around her

Alas, home, where Riley awaits her return

To tow her dress out of the pool.

But she’ll always remember her Starfish friend.

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

We had the great pleasure of photographing Franny and Ben’s wedding in Bernardston, Massachusetts at the home of  their family friend, July 23, 2010.  While the plan was to marry on the side lawn, the downpour of biblical proportion made it necessary to move their ceremony under the reception tent.  Franny’s smile never faltered.

She promised to be fun. She kept that promise.

Waiting for Ben to see her for the first time.

He definitely approves.

They don’t even know it’s raining out anymore.

Tenderness in his hands as he speaks to her with his eyes and heart.

With the support of friends and loved ones who’ll always hold their hands

And have a beer at the ready

She heads towards her new life with her mother at her side

He waits for her

And she appears

With laced fingers they began their journey

Dancing in the rain.

Only Fitting . . .

Angela. Oh. Angela.

When Angela asked me to photograph her wedding last October, I begged off.  I wanted to enjoy being a guest along with my offspring.  To my great dismay, I was down with the flu the day of her wedding . . .so, while the rest of my family watched our girl marry, I watched the clock. Weeping.

Fast forward to Saturday, August 14, 2010.

On the drive over to pick her up, I felt like a parent anticipating seeing her daughter in The Dress for the first time. Words cannot adequately express the emotion which soared through me with unbridled adoration and pride when I saw her standing there.

Angela graces the signage at our Studio. It’s only fitting she should be the subject of my first image blog in what seems a million years.  The following images are the result of love, loyalty, and dedication to all things glorious  – great and small. I hope you enjoy this stroll as much as I did creating it for you.

Exquisite simplicity.
